Meanwhile over at the PCLinuxOS Magazine site, Archie, Parnote, and the gang have been really busy getting the new magazine and site off to an excellent start with the release of the first edition of the magazine under new management. We are also pleased to announce that Parnote has earned the title of Editor in Chief. We wish him well in this new endeavor, and thank Archie for getting our beloved magazine back on track with the assistance of the Magazine Gang. Don’t forget to read it from cover to cover as it has some great insites and some humor as well.

Just released are two ‘mini’ editions of PCLinuxOS. You will know them by their names MiniMe and Zen Gnome Mini.
MiniMe is a minimal livecd that is bootable and can be installed. It comes with a very basic KDE desktop without additional applications. It is designed for advanced users or for users who wish to learn how to customize their system with the applications and support files they want to use. Additional software can be installed through the Synaptic Software Manager (requires network connection). Add your own background, window decorations, web browser client, email client, music client and fully trick out your desktop the way you want it.

Gnome Zen Mini 2009.1 - A minimalistic Gnome Desktop. Here is also the English-only version of ZEN-mini, 360 MB in size — a fully working Gnome desktop and only a few apps installed (Fireforx, gEdit, grdc and Eog)… one of the smallest Gnome distros available today!

In other news, the Quarterly Update is almost ready for release, while Melodie has put together a French edition of PCLinuxos. You can get further information about it at FRENCH. KrzysieQ from the Polish side of the forums has put together his first release of PCLinuxOS in Polish. You can find more information here.
We hope you enjoy the ‘family’ of PCLinuxOS releases!!

There has been an explosion of activity going on over at PCLinuxOS. A release candidate is out for the quarterly/semi-annual update or PCLinuxOS 2009.2 sporting a brand new theme.

Blue Caress Theme
Sproggy has just posted a release candidate RC1 for PCLinuxOS Phoenix. This is the brand new Xfce edition of PCLinuxOS done smartly in white and blues with Xfce 4.6 and a select group of apps. A new board has also been created to handle information and feedback for this release. Stop by the forums at www.pclinuxos.com to see what’s abuzz.

PCLinuxOS Phoenix Desktop
Pinoc has updated his localization script to include 104 languages, and a few tweaks besides.

Add Locale
One of our newest gadgets is Maik3531’s Update notifier. Another great application you can download from the repositories. Once started it sits in the task bar (kicker panel) and periodically checks the repositories for any updates. You will have the option to update via Synaptic, Apt-get, show package list, or reload updates. With this addition to PCLinuxOS, a new frontier in ease of use has been crossed.

Ready to go!!
The PCLinuxOS documentation project is underway again. Starting from scratch, with an almost entirely new crew and new distro to base information off of, the New Wiki is taking shape at the following site: Wiki

Last but not least, the PCLinuxOS Magazine has been revived and is well on it’s way to a new issue. There are some really exciting articles, and new columns ready to burst forth and keep you informed and educated about this beloved distro. Keep in touch at Magazine

I would just like to thank this vibrant community for all the rich ideas and support.. Well done!!!

There is plenty of celebrating going on in the forum and on the pclinuxos related IRC Channels at the moment. the PCLinuxOS Gnome 2009 edition has also been released and I’m sure there is plenty to celebrate at the Gnome site as well.
Why not go join the party and give PCLinuxOS a try.

This site will be changing as time allows. I have planned on making it another portal for PCLinuxOS and all the community remasters. We have a great team of developers who are following the path of Texstar and his dream for making a Radically Simple linux distribution. This version of linux with the KDE desktop will be easy for folks to adapt to, and nearly everything is done for you either at boot time, or during installation. It has an excellent variety of hardware drivers that will make life much simpler in computing.
We also have a number of other teams who have done what we call community remasters for various desktop experiences, such as the Gnome version, a Zen mini version (Gnome as well), and there is a new project afoot for an Xfce desktop. There is also a script available to run prior to install that will localize up to 90% of the distro for you.
As always, you are invited to stop by PCLinuxOS.com and see the full array of community remasters as well as stop by our forums for information and friendly chat.
Another site I’d like to mention is MyPCLinuxOS.com where the community remasters spring from as well as other projects such as Santa’s Helpers for those wishing to learn to build RPMs and/or join our packaging team.
Last but not least, I want to mention PCLOSBE.org where the BEL (Business Edition Linux) team does its work. This edition is a community remaster for servers and specialized desktops for home and school use.
